8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the [b]passion of her immorality.”
Bablyon has fallen which is a religious power.
Revelation 10:1-11
I saw another strong angel coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud; and the rainbow was upon his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire; 2 and he had in his hand a little book which was open. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left on the land; 3 and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars; and when he had cried out, the seven peals of thunder [a]uttered their voices. 4 When the seven peals of thunder had spoken, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them.” 5 Then the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven, 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, that there will be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He [b]preached to His servants the prophets.
8 Then the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard again speaking with me, and saying, “Go, take the [c]book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the land.” 9 So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. And he *said to me, “Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10 I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey; and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. 11 And they *said to me, “You must prophesy again concerning many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.”
This study will investigate the Great Disappointment that occurred.
Revelation 10:1-3
I saw another strong angel coming down out of heaven, clothed with a cloud; and the rainbow was upon his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire; 2 and he had in his hand a little book which was open. He placed his right foot on the sea and his left on the land; 3 and he cried out with a loud voice, as when a lion roars; and when he had cried out, the seven peals of thunder uttered their voices.
There is an angel that has a book or a scroll in his hand. This book is little and open. The angel is standing on the sea and the earth which represents populated and unpopulated places which shows it is meant for the entire earth.
Daniel 12:4
4 But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.”
What was Daniel supposed to do with this book? He was to shut the book until the time of the end. At the time of the end, this entire book would be opened to humans understanding. Throughout history portions of this book was understood. So which portion was sealed up?
Daniel 8:26
26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true; But keep the vision secret, For it pertains to many days in the future.”
The vision was the 2300 Day prophecy which was the book that was sealed.
Revelation 10:4
4 When the seven peals of thunder had spoken, I was about to write; and I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up the things which the seven peals of thunder have spoken and do not write them.”
This verse will be looked at further along in this study.
Revelation 10:5-7
5 Then the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land lifted up his right hand to heaven, 6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, that there will be delay no longer, 7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He [a]preached to His servants the prophets.
Revelation 10:8
8 Then the voice which I heard from heaven, I heard again speaking with me, and saying, “Go, take the book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the land.”
He is given the instruction to take the book which is in the hand of the angel.
Revelation 10:9
9 So I went to the angel, telling him to give me the little book. And he *said to me, “Take it and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.”
We normally don't think about eating a book but look at Jeremiah 15:16. In Jeremiah it describes him eating the words of God. The word of God is referred to as the bread of life meaning that as we study it, it becomes a part of us.
Revelation 10:10
10 I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, and in my mouth it was sweet as honey; and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter.
What was said would happen in verse 9 is what happened in verse 10. This occurred in the early advent movement when they believed God was coming back in 1844 and they got the time line wrong. It started out sweat to the taste but ended up being a bitter experience.
Revelation 10:11
11 And they *said to me, “You must prophesy again concerning many peoples and nations and tongues and kings.”
How difficult would it have been to have to go and prophecy again when it was applied incorrectly. God already knew it would happen and this is why he gave us these words.
